What are fibroblasts?

Fibroblasts are cells found in connective tissue, including the dermis, the layer beneath your skin's surface. They make collagen and other components of the structure that supports your skin.

What do fibroblasts do, and why are they important?

They help maintain the framework of your skin and participate in wound repair. Their collagen and other structural proteins provide a scaffold on which tissue can heal.

That natural role is why fibroblasts are of interest in skin treatments and regenerative research. Storing them does not itself improve your skin or treat a condition.

Why would I preserve my own fibroblasts?

Accepted Answer

To keep a personal supply collected at today's age, rather than collecting a new sample years from now. If a suitable future treatment or research program can use your stored cells, you would already have that earlier sample.

Preservation creates an option; it does not guarantee that a future therapy will accept your cells or that another collection will never be needed.

Are fibroblasts stem cells?

Accepted Answer

No. Fibroblasts are specialized connective-tissue cells. In a specialized laboratory, they can be reprogrammed into induced pluripotent stem cells, or iPSCs, which can be directed toward many other cell types.

Fibroblast Storage does not include making iPSCs or providing an iPSC treatment.

Are there any FDA-approved fibroblast therapies?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The FDA has approved a treatment made from a patient's own fibroblasts to improve the appearance of moderate to severe nasolabial fold wrinkles in adults, the folds running from the nose toward the corners of the mouth.

That approval applies to a specific manufactured product and its indication, not to fibroblast storage generally. It does not establish that cells stored with Forever Labs meet that product's requirements or that treatment is available through us.

How could I use my preserved fibroblasts?

Accepted Answer

Possible pathways include a suitable cell-based skin treatment or participation in an eligible research program, including work involving iPSCs. These possibilities have different requirements and should not be treated as interchangeable or currently available services.

Before any use, your clinician and the receiving provider or research team would need to confirm the regulatory pathway and whether your sample meets their requirements. Contact Forever Labs to discuss any proposed release under your member agreement.

Question 7

Can I use them for skin rejuvenation now?

Accepted Answer

Your storage plan is not a skin treatment. Forever Labs is not offering a fibroblast injection, cosmetic procedure, or other therapy through this plan.

A treatment provider would need to assess the specific product, your eligibility, current availability, and whether it can accept your stored cells. An existing FDA approval is not a general authorization to use any stored fibroblasts.

How are my fibroblasts collected?

Accepted Answer

A qualified provider takes a small skin-punch sample after numbing the area. The collection itself is brief; appointment length and closure method depend on the provider and collection site.

Our team helps coordinate your collection and gives you instructions before the visit. Provider availability and local practice requirements determine who performs it.

Question 9

Does the collection hurt, and will it leave a scar?

Accepted Answer

The local anesthetic can briefly sting, and you may feel pressure or some discomfort during collection. Mild soreness afterward is possible.

A small scar is possible, and stitches may be needed. Your provider should explain the collection site, expected healing, and individual risks before you proceed.

What aftercare will I need?

Accepted Answer

Follow your collection provider's instructions for wound care, dressings, bathing, exercise, and any stitch removal. Contact the provider if you develop increasing pain, redness, swelling, drainage, or fever.

What happens to my sample after collection?

Accepted Answer

Your sample is sent to our laboratory, where fibroblasts are isolated and prepared for cryogenic storage. Your preserved cells remain associated with your identity and collection record in your Personal Bio-Vault.

Question 12

Why does The Complete Baseline matter?

A later result is easier to interpret when there is an earlier measurement to compare it with. The Complete Baseline records your whole genome and methylation patterns to create that reference.

Your inherited genome is a long-term reference, while methylation measurements can be compared over time using appropriate sample types and methods. One result alone does not show a trend, diagnose a condition, or prove that a lifestyle change caused a biological change.

The Complete Baseline is included with Lifetime and available separately for $2,495 with Annual. It is a research and wellness service, not a medical diagnosis.

Question 13

How long can I keep my cells in my Personal Bio-Vault?

The Annual plan includes the first year of storage, with renewal at $300 per year from year two. The Lifetime plan includes lifetime storage under the member agreement, without annual storage fees.

Storage duration is not a guarantee of suitability for every future use. Any proposed treatment or test would have its own sample requirements.

Can I preserve blood and fibroblasts together?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Blood + Fibroblasts Annual plan is $2,000 initially, then $500 per year; Lifetime is $10,500. Our team can help coordinate both collections, though whether they happen in the same visit depends on the provider and location.
